Whilst Kanonkop only enters wine competitions bi-annually, we struck gold again this year. Amongst various silver awards, the Kanonkop Paul Sauer 2009, Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 and the Kanonkop Pinotage 2004 all received Gold Awards.

History was made when Kanonkop became the first winery to win the prestigious trophy for Best Blended Red Wine for the 4th time. This trophy, formerly known as the Pichon Longueville Comtessa de Lalande Trophy, was awarded this year to the Paul Sauer 2009.

Cellarmaster Abrie Beeslaar had the following to say: “The year 2009 will undoubtedly go down as one of the best vintages in the history of the South African Wine Industry. I believe that the quality of Paul Sauer 2009 will, together with other top South African wines, go a long way in furthering our reputation as one of the world’s most unique and best wine producing countries.”

Abrie will receive the trophy on 13th November at a gala dinner in the Guild Hall in London.
