Kanonkop – 40 Years Old

28 Oct

general_02Kanonkop Estate has been producing wines for many years and in days of old, sold its entire stock in bulk to Stellenbosch Farmers Winery. With the visionary minds of Paul Sauer and Jannie Krige (our grandfather and father respectively) together with the energy and drive of then cellarmaster Jan Boland Coetzee, the first commercial bottling from Kanonkop saw the light when the Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon 1973 was released.

We have “reluctantly” and under great “duress “ from one of our very loyal supporters, Melvyn Minnaar, decided to do a very special bottling to celebrate this milestone. The PAUL SAUER 40, a Bordeaux Blend from the 2007 vintage will thus go on sale 4th November 2013. The label features a portrait of Paul Sauer with his traditional pipe in hand. Each bottle is wrapped in paper featuring portraits of Jan Boland Coetzee, Beyers Truter and current cellarmaster, Abrie Beeslaar – the only cellarmasters active on Kanonkop since 1973. Only 500 bottles were produced and will it be released at R730.00 per bottle ex Kanonkop (vat incl.)

We believe this wine, which was produced from grapes grown on Kanonkop only, is a true reflection of the vision Paul Sauer had when he “commercialized” Kanonkop back in 1973.
