Harvesting at Kanonkop started on the 1st of February and will be finished by the end of March. After major cellar extensions and upgrades in 2016/17, we are proud to announce that for the first time in Kanonkop history, we took more than 2000 tons into the cellar.
Much like the rest of the Western Cape, it has been an extremely dry season on Kanonkop with record low rainfall figures. We measured 40% less rain than our long term average. Despite the extreme drought and harsh conditions, our vines have proven to be very adaptable and are still in good condition. Hot days but cooler nights ensured that the grapes ripened properly, even though yields are down by approximately 10%.
Abrie and his team believe that the quality in the cellar is looking very promising.
