For us at Kanonkop, the education and empowerment of the children residing on the farm is a top priority. After considering many options, we decided to partner with the ANNA FOUNDATION and kick- started their ‘3 R’s’ programme at Kanonkop.
The ‘3 R’s’ programme is an ‘after school’ project which runs 5 days a week from, 15:00 – 17:00 on the Estate. The ‘3 R’s’ refer to ‘reading’, ‘running’ and ‘righting’ – righting referring to ‘right living’. The programme involves education, sports and life skills activities and has been professionally designed by educational specialists through the educational programme, which includes a drama therapist and a drama play specialist for the life skills programme and specialists in Human Movement studies for the sports programme. The aim of the 3 R’s programme is to offer children life-long learning and to build positive self-worth and self-respect.
Running the project at Kanonkop, we have newly appointed, Clifton Stuurman, and Leticia Breda, a Kanonkop employee who is currently receiving training to assist the primary school children.
We are very excited about this project and believe that it will have a great impact on the lives of the children on Kanonkop.
